The BAISIS Annual Conference was held on Friday 11th October 2013 at the Radisson Blue Hotel, Birmingham.
Attendance was extremely good, with many schools sending several delegates. Many non-member schools also joined the conference, taking part in a full programme of seminars and workshops during the day.
The conference began with an inspirational talk by this year’s key note speaker, Heather Hanbury, Headmistress of Wimbledon High School, on success and failure and dealing positively with both. Matt Norbury returned to Heather’s theme in his closing talk on fostering growth mindsets in students. In between these two plenary sessions, delegates were able to choose from a wide range of workshops and presentations catering for language teachers, science teachers, pastoral staff and senior managers. These included an update on Tier 4 issues from ISC General Secretary, Matthew Burgess, whose analysis of the current situation and implications for schools was extremely valuable.
The conference was followed by a lively conference dinner and the BAISIS AGM.
Feedback from the event was very positive. Delegates commented on the quality of the programme and speakers and how much they appreciated having time to talk to colleagues from other schools about areas of common interest and concern.
A summary of the conference programme is attached to this article. Full information and downloads relating to the event can be found in the members’ area of the website. If you are not a member, but are interested in finding out more about membership, please use the contact page to get in touch.
