The British Association of Independent Schools with International Students (BAISIS) and the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) are joining forces formally to support international boarders studying in the UK.

BAISIS, which has 65 UK school members, and BSA which has more than 600 in 35 countries, have worked in partnership since 2019.

Now from June 1, BAISIS will formally become part of BSA Group, which comprises BSA and the Safeguarding and Child Protection Association (Sacpa).

As part of BSA Group, BAISIS will offer its training and support services for international students to more schools and BSA will offer these services to its members for the first time.

After June 1, BAISIS General Secretary Caroline Nixon will join the BSA Group as International Director and Director, BAISIS, Chair Julian Baker will become a board director and Executive Officer Sue Harris will continue in her role.

Commenting on the move, BSA Chair Mark Lauder said: “We are delighted to build on our positive relationship with BAISIS and welcome Caroline, Julian and Sue to the wider Group.

“BAISIS and BSA believe passionately in supporting boarding and safeguarding and offer specialist support to schools. Bringing BAISIS and BSA together strengthens both organisations at a time when supporting international students is more important than ever.”

BAISIS Chair Julian Baker said: “The partnership BAISIS has had with BSA over the past 12 months has been very productive and we are pleased to take this a stage further by bringing BAISIS into the BSA Group.

“This is a clear benefit for our members and ultimately the schools and students they support.”
