Course Outline:
Providing the best welcome for international students joining us for a period of study can directly impact their ability to engage socially and academically right from the start. From ensuring first-time arrivals are supported in embracing the challenge of navigating a new education system, making friends, coping with culture shock and getting to grips with daily life in the UK, to ensuring all international students are reintroduced to healthy habits to prepare them for a successful school year, encouraged to engage with extracurricular activities and develop essential personal life skills, supporting with this major transition is essential.
Delegates will hear from our speaker who specialises in international support and education in the UK on how to prepare the whole international student community for success for the coming year.
Training topics will include:
- Pre-arrival considerations and induction link to sponsor responsibilities
- Supporting first-time arrivals
- Providing a re-induction for all international students
- Understanding the context of transitions on emotions and student experience.

Jordan Meakin, Assistant Head (Boarding), Mill Hill International
After short careers in industrial chemistry and professional music, Jordan started his boarding career almost 15 years ago at the Duke of York’s Royal Military School, Kent, before later moving to New Hall School, Essex, where he served as a Housemaster, Director of Music and later Head of Boarding. Jordan joined the Mill Hill Education Group in North London in 2023 as Assistant Head (Boarding) overseeing boarding at Mill Hill School and Mill Hill International and from September, the 1729 Maths School. Jordan has extensive experience of boarding leadership, pastoral care and safeguarding.
