Dear Colleagues,

As this is the final BSA Weekly Newsletter before the end of term and 2021, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for all your support over the past 12 months.

While 2021 has, as we expected at the beginning of the year, continued to present challenges – largely in the form of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic – the whole sector has coped admirably. While the numbers of cases in our schools have varied, none has been forced to close throughout the entire pandemic. That’s a testament to the hard work, commitment and dedication of every single person working in boarding, and the whole boarding community can be extremely proud of our handling of the situation.

While I’m sure we’d all hoped that the pandemic would be a distant memory by now, the emergence of the Omicron variant, and the ongoing difficulties around any international travel, does mean that we are still likely to be managing the effects of COVID-19 for some time yet. But the way in which we’ve quickly adapted to the ever-changing demands posed by the virus since early 2020 certainly fills me with confidence that we will continue to respond to any new challenges that may be to come.

The end of the year also marks the end of my tenure as BSA Chair. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my year in the hotseat and working closely with many of the BSA members, particularly during the Annual Conference for Heads back in May. Thank you too, to the BSA Team, who’ve continued to do a terrific job supporting members, staff and pupils throughout another tough year. In January, I will be handing the reins over to Andrew Rattue, Principal at St Clare’s, Oxford, who has done an excellent job this year as Chair of BAISIS, and I wish him every success for the coming 12 months.

The BSA weekly newsletter will now be taking a break, with the next edition due to be published on Friday, January 7, 2022. In the meantime, on behalf of everyone at BSA Group, I’d like to wish you a very Happy Christmas and all the very best for the New Year.
