Dear Members,

The UK Government made two announcements last night (November 8) with relation to arrivals into the UK from November 22 onwards:

From that date all under 18s will be able to enter the UK without the need to quarantine. This is currently already the case for almost all boarders through their residence status, but will now apply to all children.

From November 22 all vaccines on the WHO Emergency Use Listing (EUL) will be recognised. As specified in the guidance this relates to:

  • Sinovac
  • Sinopharm Beijing
  • Covaxin.

Therefore any boarders aged 18 or over who have been double vaccinated and have the appropriate proof will not need to self-isolate on return to the UK. However please note that the widely available Sputnik vaccine is not yet on the WHO Emergency use list, so will not yet qualify for the exemption. The full notice can be read here.

At the time of writing this applies only to England. However the devolved administrations normally make their announcements shortly afterwards, and any updates will be circulated as appropriate.

As mentioned in last Friday’s newsletter (Issue 227, November 5), BSA is aware of restrictions for boarders when they return to their home countries, and will continue to gather information. Further details will be given in Friday’s newsletter (November 12).

Best wishes,

The BSA Team
