Course Outline
International students arrive at our schools with varying needs and difficulties from homesickness to culture shock to low English level. It is our job to welcome them and make them feel at home whilst making sure they understand and retain key information. This is particularly challenging when students join us mid-year when we often do not have the luxury of time to do thorough induction.
Training topics will include:
This session will look at practical ways to induct new students, with a focus on in-year arrivals; making them relevant, informative and memorable whilst being sensitive to individual needs.
Learning outcomes:
A better understanding of the aims of induction and how to achieve these, both at the start and in the middle of the school year.
Speaker: Camilla Bryden Head and James Duncan Head Middle School, Taunton School International, part of Taunton School, Somerset.
