Course Outline:
In schools with a diverse student body, promoting vocabulary acquisition is essential for academic success and social integration, especially for students with varying levels of English language ability and experience. This webinar is designed to offer strategies to encourage vocabulary growth in every lesson, interaction and setting. Our speaker will explore practical approaches to embedding vocabulary learning throughout the school day – whether in academic lessons, boarding life or extracurricular activities. Participants will gain ideas for creating an inclusive learning environment where domestic and international students can develop their language skills, regardless of their starting point.
Training topics will include:
- The importance of vocabulary for academic and social success
- Integrating vocabulary learning in every lesson
- Creating a vocabulary-rich environment in non-academic settings
- Supporting EAL learners: differentiation and scaffolding.

Marijke Rivers-Andries
Marijke Rivers-Andries is the founder of Every Language Learner and an EAL, multilingualism and adult ESOL specialist with over 20 years’ teaching experience across national and international educational settings. As a multilingual learner herself, Marijke is passionate about creating more inclusive education systems in which learners’ languages, identities and experiences are recognised as assets.
Through Every Language Learner, Marijke supports educators and school leaders through consultancy, professional learning and resource development, with a particular focus on language equity, translanguaging, whole-school inclusion, multilingual family partnerships and belonging. She also teaches adult ESOL and has led community-based initiatives supporting language learning and participation.
Marijke is committed to bridging research and classroom practice, helping educators move beyond seeing multilingualism simply as a challenge to be managed and towards recognising it as a powerful resource for learning, identity and inclusion.
