Course Outline:
This seminar, designed specifically for summer school staff working with international students, will equip you with the essential knowledge and tools to create a safe and inclusive environment for the students joining your summer school programme. Safeguarding should be a priority and all staff involved in the summer school provision should understand what safeguarding means in practical terms, but also what it means from a child-centred approach. This seminar will highlight the key safeguarding information required by practitioners, and also give insight into the specific needs to best safeguard international students.
Training topics will include:
- Safeguarding and your Duty of Care
- Understanding and following safeguarding policies, procedures and ensuring you follow a robust safeguarding framework
- The unique needs of international students: language barriers, cultural differences and homesickness
- Identifying and responding to a safeguarding concern.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of safeguarding principles and requirements and their application in a summer school environment
- Develop cultural sensitivity and communication skills to better connect with and support students
- Improve your confidence in identifying and responding to a safeguarding concern
- Ensuring compliance with UK safeguarding regulations and legal obligations.
