Course Outline:

How do you bridge language barriers in a multilingual classroom? This webinar will explore how using learners’ entire linguistic repertoire can foster deeper understanding of language learning and cultural inclusion. Some practical strategies will be shared to help integrate translanguaging into everyday teaching to promote collaboration amongst learners of all language backgrounds. We will take a look at how to create inclusive classrooms where languages are seen as resources for learning.

Speaker: Iva Miteva, EAL Specialist at Across Cultures and the Learning Village

Iva is an EAL Specialist with Across Cultures who has taught EAL to international pupils from different countries and educational backgrounds for over 18 years. She has also led and managed the EAL provision in a number of independent schools and educational organisations as Head of EAL and EAL Coordinator working with EAL teams, class teachers and senior leadership teams. Iva has a PG Dip in Educational Leadership and Management and a Master’s in Applied Linguistics. Iva is fluent in four languages and she is passionate about multilingualism, valuing diversity and the importance of maintaining children’s home languages.

Iva often shares her extensive experience as a linguist in webinars and courses led by Across Cultures and the Learning Village. She enjoys creating scaffolded resources for EAL learners and also writes EAL topic-based articles for the Across Cultures blog.
