EAL Teaching Assistant

Denstone College have an exciting opportunity for an experienced EAL Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive academic team. You will work to support pupils one to one and in groups to whom English is an additional language, therefore experience of this and/or the ability to speak and understand an additional or multiple language(s) is advantageous. There is some flexibility in the timings of these sessions, with lessons possibly arranged during the working day or over a couple of evenings during the week. This will be discussed further with candidates at interview.


Beginning life as a school in 1873, Denstone College is a thriving, co-educational boarding and day school, situated close to Uttoxeter. It has its own preparatory school, which has recently moved onto the main campus, providing continuous education on the same site for pupils aged from 4–18. The school is part of the Woodard Corporation, and the Head is in membership of HMC.


The successful candidate must demonstrate:

  • Previous experience of working with EAL children is advantageous
  • Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or experience
  • EAL qualification or willingness to obtain
  • Ability to speak and understand an additional or multiple language(s) is advantageous
  • Ability to build good working relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues
  • Skills in supporting and guiding pupils
  • Knowledge of EAL teaching and learning strategies and resources is advantageous
  • Ability to work one to one and with groups of pupils in a classroom environment
