Felsted School Rugby Player, Craig W, Year 13, has signed a professional contract with Northampton Saints Rugby.

Craig is currently studying double BTEC sports and A Level Business at Felsted Sixth Form. Despite only playing Rugby from the age of 14, he was selected for Northampton Saints U16s, and has since travelled the country for many training sessions and games.

Craig also featured for England U18s in this year’s Six Nations Festival, scoring two tries against Wales in the first match and played against Italy and Scotland.

Rugby is a strong discipline at Felsted, with success at every level over the last few years. The school currently holds partnerships with Saracens as well as Northampton Saints, helping build a pathway to success for current players at all levels.

‘It’s an honour to be on board with Northampton Saints for the start of my professional career. Felsted has taught me so much, and has helped me become the player that I am today, and I will always be grateful for that.’ Comments Craig. ‘I would like to say a special thank you to Chevs for all of his support and guidance both on and off the pitch.’

Craig hopes to follow in the footsteps of former Felstedian Max Malins, who was named the top Premier Rugby Try Scorer in 2021 and featured for England in this year’s Six Nations.

Recent individual Rugby success stories at Felsted also include; Alex Wardell who was selected for England’s U20s earlier in the year, Ellie Lennon who made her 1st Team Premiership Debut in January, Ehren Painter who is featuring regularly for Northampton Saints as one of the youngest premiership props, and Rory Hutchison who is also performing well at Northampton Saints.

‘Craig is a hardworking and dedicated individual, with incredible sportsmanship and clear talent for the sport of Rugby’ comments Felsted’s Director of Rugby and ex-Wasps player, Andrew Le Chevalier. ‘He has been a pleasure to coach, and I’m sure he will achieve great things in the future with Northampton Saints.’
