Mack Rutherford, who recently became the youngest person to fly around the world setting a new Guinness World Record, will fly into his school in Dorset.  In anticipation of Mack’s arrival Friday (14 Oct 2022) Sherborne School’s playing fields will become an international airport.

Mack’s epic adventure lasted five months and one day and had numerous set-backs including spending a night on an uninhabited island on his own.  Also an aircraft electrical failure, a monsoon-soaked fuel tank, and a solar panel system failure.  With his flight, Mack wanted to show young people that with grit and perseverance the chances of succeeding are on your side.

Mack a Sixth Form student at Sherborne School, will land his high-performance ultralight Shark aircraft at 11.45am to mark this significant achievement.  He will do so with class mates and other pupils from Sherborne School and Sherborne Prep School looking on, to mark the occasion and inspire other young people to follow their dreams.  Mack will then depart for Belgium and it is expected a member of the Border Force will oversee the international departure the paperwork.
